It’s one thing to have a well-known face, but for me it’s about being able to back that up with some substance.

And that’s exactly what I’ve been doing since being introduced to the nation on Channel Ten’s ratings juggernaut Big Brother.

As the ‘smart guy from Big Brother’ I’ve selected my projects carefully choosing those that allow me to showcase and develop my writing and presenting skills.

Blogging for The Chaser was a good start – letting me take on the serious issues but with a grin and a wink rather than a furrowed brow.

Soon I was writing opinion and presenting for 2GB’s news-site livenews.com.au.

This led to roles presenting on 2GB itself and finally in 2010 to my jump across the urls to competitor news.com.au as Entertainment Editor.

I suppose specialising in ‘cyber-journalism’ in its infancy has given me a  unique perspective on the fast moving multi-platform media revolution – where a producer must blend video, written and audio content for the next generation of consumers.

Not that old media is dead. I’ve taken on a range of TV projects, culminating in my role presenting award winning chat show Dare I Ask? and in 2011 hosting specialist program Small Biz Central.

And as the new host on the block on 2SER’s breakfast show I’ve also been able to dig into the old media medium known as ‘radio’.

In fact radio is much like MCing except in an empty room. I still do quite a lot of MCing and speaking too by the way – hosting events from esoteric talks at the State Library, to family friendly events at shopping centres, to intense community debates at the Wayside Chapel as their youth ambassador.

Of course community work has always been extremely important to me. I recently travelled to East Timor to make a documentary for an Australian aid organization and regularly volunteer for hosting roles at charity events.

So with a media journey that has taken me from new to old to new again my head is spinning. I suppose I better leave it there. But please do shoot me an email using the address below.
